On every Friday from 1:15 PM to 3:30 PM, the Sierra Vista High School Video Game Club meets in room 410 to bond over their shared passion for gaming. Mr. Frank Cadden, the long-standing Video Game Club advisor, celebrates the club’s fifth year at SVHS.
Mr. Cadden shares why he started the club: “Video Game Club started as a social club for some of my students to play Super Smash Bros after school.” Mr. Cadden further states that the club’s expansion came when “More and more students began showing up, and we were able to get tons of consoles, games, and monitors.” Ultimately, Mr. Cadden is excited “To expand and do more events.”
Matt Kagebein (12), a member of the Video Game Club, arranges and attends club meetings every week. Kagebein shares what he enjoys most about Video Game Club, “I mean, it’s the community mainly and the way we all have access to games. Also, you have games like fighting games, and people can just get together.” Kagebein recalls his favorite memory from Video Game Club, “It was probably when we had almost everyone in the Video Game Club playing Smash Bros. It was just the last two people, and everyone was so hyped for who was gonna win. It was sudden death and the last hit was really cinematic.”
Nathan Witt (12), another devoted class officer of the Video Game Club, shares, “The best part is the tournaments. Sometimes we will move to the library or someplace else to play a game for a prize pool.” Witt expresses his favorite memories, “All my memories are really good, it’s hard to choose one.”
On January 29th, 2026, the Video Game Club hosted a Clash Royale Tournament in the SVHS library. The tournament, sponsored by LVL UP Expo, provided gifts for all participants. Top players competed for gift cards, the first-place prize being $150, second-place winning $100, third-place winning $50, and fourth and fifth place winning $30.
On April 17th, 2026, Video Game Club will host a 2v2 Super Smash Bros tournament in room 410 after school. The winning team members will receive gift cards, with first place winning $40, second and third winning $30, and fourth and fifth winning $20.
Video Game Club is free to join and welcomes all interested students every Friday. Kagebein expresses, “We’re really open to new members all the time. We’re mainly here for fun.”
