Every Monday, students gather in Room 223 to write creative stories and form new friendships in the Writing Club.
Writing Club’s students collaborated to write a book called “With or Without You…It’s happening.” Ms. Allegrini, the Writing Club’s advisor, shares that Madelyn Acosta (grade 11), a dedicated member of the Writing Club, worked diligently on the book and contributed a generous amount of ideas and time. Once the club finished the book, they received the opportunity to work on anything they pleased. Writing club also allows members to focus by working individually to compose their own book or short story throughout the year.
Ms. Allegrini shares what members complete during their weekly sessions, “Students are encouraged to write whatever genre they like, but we do look at multiple types of writing. Some examples include horror, romance, comedy, and short stories. We try to base it on the interests of students in the club. The process looks different for everybody, but as long as you are willing to work on your writing, this is the club for you! The club creates a low-stakes space for students to write freely and receive feedback if they’re looking for it. I have always been a big fan of creative writing, which was my inspiration for becoming an advisor.” The main quality the club seeks in new members is the desire to become a better writer.
Students interested in joining the Writing Club can attend meetings in Room 223 every Monday, and can join at any time throughout the school year. Ms. Allegrini advises, “Some advice I would give to students joining is to stop by a meeting even if they think it might be something of their interest. Writing Club encourages students who want to improve their writing skills to attend meetings.” Writing Club helps students improve their writing while being creative.
