Every Tuesday after school, students gather in room 316 for the Sierra Vista High School Art Club. Serving as one of Sierra Vista’s core clubs, Art Club acts as a place where students can find community and hang out with others interested in art.
Currently, Mr. Maxwell Richmond advises the club and dedicates his time and effort to the Art Club. After a brief hiatus, Richmond decided to reopen the Art Club upon student requests. Richmond shares, “Being one of the few art teachers at the school, students would constantly ask me if we had an Art Club, which I told them we didn’t.”
Students who requested Richmond to reopen the Art Club now serve as board members of the club. Miranda Paramo ( 10 ), the Art Club’s president, stepped up to support the club through her constant initiative and involvement in the club’s activities. Paramo shares, “We are definitely a very loud club, not very focused on hours.” Richmond adds, “Pretty friendly, I would say welcoming. It’s a more relaxed and less serious club.”

Art Club welcomes its new members with fun activities and the chance to make new friends while honing their artistic skills. The Art Club provides students with an easy-going environment that eases the stress after a long school day, refocusing on not just the art but also the art of living in the moment with friends. During club meetings, members often socialize with one another and participate in various art activities and games. Such as learning to paint pumpkins, working with colored pencils, clay, and paint. A few of these activities are seasonal, depending on the time of the year.
Occasionally, the Art Club collaborates with other Sierra Vista clubs, creating a space filled with combined passions and communities. On November 18, Art Club collaborated with the National Junior Honor Society to hold an event where students were allowed to create sweet messages through letters and drawings for American Education Week. During this meeting, the Art Club members created drawings on half sheets of paper. The National Junior Honor Society combined the drawings with a bag of chips and handed them out to the educators at Sierra Vista High School in honor of Education Week.
Currently, no scheduled upcoming events exist other than the weekly meetings. However, the Art Club hopes to host an Art Show to showcase students’ work. In order to join the Art Club, students should meet in room 316 on Tuesday after school from 1:15-2:45.
