On every Thursday of the month in room 200, students gather to learn and develop long-lasting leadership skills. Key Club, the largest and oldest student-led international organization, promotes lifelong skills through leadership, focusing on community service events and building a positive change through volunteering. Weekly meetings contain a fun, brightening environment, changing the atmosphere of a meeting room and typically including Happy Sad Lion; glows and grows of the day, bonding games, and volunteering opportunities. Sierra Vista Key Club this year volunteered at events such as Fall Festivals at local elementary schools, HallOVeen with Opportunity Village, making posters and volunteering for Make a Wish.
Key Club, being an international club, all of the Las Vegas High School Key Clubs located in region five come together to meet at a Regional Training Conference (RTC). On October 19, 2025, Sierra Vista Key Club received the honour of hosting RTC here on Sierra Vista’s campus, welcoming all of Las Vegas. Prepping and guiding executive board members, President Yoredanose “Yanni” Getachow (10), Executive Vice President Amelia Phillips (10), Spirit VP Tyler Choi (12), Treasurer Ramzes Madayag (10), Secretary Viyan Ziaei (12), and Editor Sydeney Stewart (12) organized and helped maintain the flow of the event. Filled with high spirit, an energetic atmosphere surrounded by constant noise forms as hundreds of students arrive. Key Club advisor Amanda Phillips shares,“… is the largest RTC in the world with over 1500 people in attendance.” Participants attended workshops, lively cheer-offs for the division spirit stick, and learned more about Key Club as a whole. Members connected from all over Vegas, creating new relationships and bonds.
President Getachow (10) is determined to broaden Key Club’s impact this year, focusing on growth, stability, and inclusivity, determined to keep members engaged while expanding the community. Getachow shares, “My goals for Key Club this year are to increase our members’ retention and fundraise $1000 by the end of the term.” To help achieve this goal, Getachow structures each meeting by ringing the bell to begin, reviewing the agenda, reciting pledges, playing bonding games, and opening the floor for “happy sad lion”. Creating an atmosphere that Getachow describes as “bright and fun”.
Additionally, Vice President Phillips (10) brings her passion and enthusiasm to the board, inspired by previous executive officers. Phillips initially joined Key Club after hearing her sister describe the fun events, welcoming meetings, and the chance to build long-lasting friendships. This year, Phillips’ goal, simple yet meaningful, is to help members earn all required service hours to attend the end-of-term banquet. For future students considering joining, her advice is clear: “Key Club is all about community service, so if you like to serve your community while making friends this is a great way to start.”
As the school year continues, SV Key Club stands out as more than just a service organization, but a community built on connection, leadership, and the shared desire to make a difference. From weekly meetings to local service events, members find opportunities to give back and positively shape their community.
