On Friday, March 22, 2024, Sierra Vista’s student council hosted the annual Spring Assembly. Students stepped into the gym, now fully decorated as a chocolate wonderland. Willy Wonka-inspired decorations and the Willy Wonka original soundtrack play as students enter the fully decorated foyer. Student Council worked diligently to bring “Leo’s Chocolate Factory” to life, putting on an incredible assembly full of creativity and teamwork.

Hosted by sophomores Hannah Reed and McKenzie Gidge, the assembly began with a breathtaking duet between Zoe Caballero and Isaish Misailegalu singing the National Anthem. Sierra Vista’s Polynesian club performed for the first time, showcasing a variety of unique traditional Polynesian dances. Calaya R. Saunders, a member of the Polynesian club shares, “In our culture, no matter the island, we prepare dances as a gift to our community to tell our stories. For Sierra Vista, the dances we provided were a way to gift our school a small peek of what our Polynesian culture entails.”

The next beautiful and unique performance featured Color Guard, which Sierra Vista students and staff alike enjoyed. Julianna L. Reed, a member of Color Guard explains, “Performing in front of the whole school is a big thing for us. We have never performed in front of such a big group so it was nerve-racking but really exciting. Most of all we would love to do it again because we know that it will reach people and bring smiles to everyone’s faces.”

Then student council announced its raffle ticket winners, Nora Baltera and Penelope Marquez for contributing to the Wigs for Kids fundraiser. Both received a class shirt and a “golden ticket”, that can used for a free Chick-fil-A. Mr. Gibson then revealed that he had cut off his long hair due to the fundraiser raising a shocking $2,753.

SVHS also continued its tradition of the belt being passed on to Mr.Broc Christenesn from Mr. Shane Gibson.

Jolie Calvo, Zoe Caballero, and Quinashea Dottery then performed their song, “Painting the World Blue” together and featured another amazing duet. Senior Melanie Radan was dumped with “chocolate” and topped with a little whipped cream to conclude the assembly.
