Having over a 10 winning streak and making it to the state semifinals, Sierra Vista High School’s female varsity volleyball team made a positive name for themselves during the 2021-2022 season, leaving all of Vegas’ high schools in the dust.

During the beginning of the season, the team wowed Sierra Vista students and staff with their fresh winning streak. Having a 10-0 win against Liberty Highschool made staff and students see how well the team can play and pursue their goal; not to mention having won against Arbor View with a 8-0 score and Rancho Highschool with a 7- 0 win.

The team made their way with hard work and dedication, making every second count and leaving no time for rest or quitting. As once said by Peyton Castillo, grade 12, captain of the team, in Sage Couturier’s article “Women’s Volleyball Streak Continues”, “I play this game for myself because I love it and if I’m not playing for myself and to make myself better, then there’s no point.”

With the team’s victory and hard work, many of the players are proud to be announced with these Volleyball Honors. Peyton Castillo was given the name ‘Player of the year’. First Team being: Mayson Bruschke, Lauren Randall, Nazzirene-Alliz Mika-Togiola, Ariella Maika, and Micah Castillo, and Second Team being: Sumanpreet Kaur and Juliette Tiamalu.

The head coach of the volleyball team, Coach Camille McComas was named ‘Coach Of The Year’ with her outstanding leadership, patience, dedication, and positive mindset.

The team has all supported each other and made the best out of each outcome. As stated in Sage Couturier’s article “Women’s Volleyball Streak Continues” Castillo stated, “My determination comes from watching my teammates succeed with my help, watching the smiling faces and cheers when we beat good teams.”

Sierra Vista’s volleyball team could not have made a better name for themselves and they did outstanding work in order to achieve their success.
