The E-Hall Pass
December 10, 2021
Sierra Vista High School is now using the new way of getting a hall pass. Students can access E-Hall Pass through Clever which makes it easier to get a hall pass.
Sierra Vista’s principal, Ms. Jessica Lee Lovell, shared about how E-Hall Pass started.
“It was a group decision. A few other schools started it so I brought the idea to our department chair committee (lead teachers in the school) and they liked the idea so we decided to try it out,” said Lovell.
“I think it will be beneficial for the whole school. We have so many students who stay out of class for long periods of time on a bathroom pass and we have no way of tracking. This system will help us track and address the students who are misusing bathroom & hall passes.” continued Lovell.
Students take hall passes as a chance to meet their friends in the bathroom or any other part of the building. It makes the bathroom crowded.
“I think some students will like it, because I know that the bathrooms are a big problem here,” said Lovell,
“This will help clean a lot of that up. There will always be students who do not like it, but those are probably the students who are misusing the bathroom to begin with.” continued Lovell.
Teachers used paper hall passes before, E-Hall Pass can cause less hassle for the teachers. Mr. Smith, English teacher said, “I think it is helpful because you can track the time students are away etc and how many in the school are out at one time. I hate handwriting passes so I think I do like it,”
“I don’t know if the students will like it or not. They are used to cell phone technology so that helps but it monitors them more carefully so it is hard to say what their reaction will be. I like it overall.” continued Smith.
E-Hall Pass can actually be beneficial. E-Hall Pass makes the bathroom less crowded. The school admins can see how many students are out of the room.
Ms. Lovell shared the benefits of E-Hall Pass, “Not overcrowding the bathrooms, keeping students in class where they are learning, helping address student truancies. We are so excited to have a system to support students and teachers! E-Hall Pass will help us address some of the issues we are seeing on campus and thus, support student safety and learning in the process.” ended Lovell.
Students might feel strange because we are not used to it, but the teachers and staff are trying their best to make it feel the same way as before.
