Meet Dood, Vista’s Very Own Therapy Dog
October 27, 2021
What has golden hair, four paws, and loves Sierra Vista students? If your answer is Leo, Sierra Vista Mountain Lion mascot, you are wrong. With the arrival of our new principal this school year, students now have a new furry friend, Dood.
Dood is a one-year old Goldendoodle, also known as the Groodle, is bred from a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Dood happens to be a therapy dog here at Sierra Vista. But before coming to Vista, he was at Palo Verde High School as a training dog since he did not have his certification. However, after four weeks of training, Dood earned the official title of school facility dog which allows new friends to, “pet and love on him” shares mom and trainer, Mrs. Lovell.
Ms. Lovell says that she did get Dood with the intention of bringing him into schools and being a therapy dog to help support the mental health of students and make them feel better. Although Dood is a service dog, and people are really not supposed to distract them, Mrs. Lovell encourages students to pet and play with Dood.
So far, the reactions to Dood have been beyond positive. When students go up to Dood, they want to pet him and take pictures because he has such a loving spirit.
Mrs. Lovell noted that Dood helps Sierra Vista by making students and himself happy. They say it is the best part of their day.
Dood loves being himself and making everyone’s day better. No matter what mood a visitor is in when they see Dood, he brings smiles to faces when he is seen around school.
Besides seeing Dood at school everyday, students can see him at school events such as volleyball games, football games, and even our homecoming dance where he was dressed in a bow for the formal occasion.
