Chase Atlantic’s Phases: An Album for Alt-Rock Fans

October 27, 2021
Phases is an album made by the Australian boy band, Chase Atlantic, which was formed in 2014. Phases is Chase Altanic’s sophomore album, released in June 2019.
The album includes 12 songs:
- Intro
- Angels
- Phases
- Love is (Not) Easy
- Her
- No Rainbows
- Heaven and back
- Stuck My Brain
- Even though I’m Depressed
- Too Late
- I Never Existed
- I Don’t Like Darkness
Phases is a very relaxed and laid-back album that goes into depth about their depression, love life, and mental issues.
Lead singer, Mitchel Cave stated in a recent post, “This album feels as though it is truly a work of astronomical measures, It’s the first time we were able to honestly and openly hone into something so monumentally special and raw without compromising even an inch of our integrity as artists. We’ve developed a completely new sound within a matter of months that has never been tapped into before. Chase Atlantic is now dwelling within a realm of its own; it’s both scarily isolating and blissfully euphoric at the same time. Welcome to a whole new era.”
This album, as Caves says, is Chase Atlantic’s new era of their music. After this album, they released another album like this one, which is all-new compared to their older music. Phases is a personal favorite because of how much it shows what alternative music is. One of the problems it has though, is many of the songs have some of the same beat, just with their twist. It can be confusing because sometimes I did not know if I am on a new song or the same one.. They made and produced this album mostly by themselves, and it is amazing for this being their sophomore album.
The album starts with “Intro”; it is two minutes of just very relaxed music, almost like the beginning of a concert when they get you hyped up and excited for what’s about to play. It is a very smart concept for an album to have an almost welcome to the album.
The songs “Stuck In My Brain” and “Even Though I’m Depressed” are the most emotional pieces of this album; They talk about drug addiction, overthinking, and the feeling that nothing is right. Sadly, quite a lot of teenagers can understand and relate to these lyrics.“Even Though I’m Depressed” speaks about bipolar feelings, of never knowing why they are angry at one time, but happy the next. The songs also stress the need to keep themselves busy to feel happier, but once they are alone, the sadness returns. The music continues to explore themes about greed, and the need to always buy expensive things in hopes it will feel that empty hole.
Phases has set a great example of what alternative music is, and is one of the best albums they have made. It is a great album, and I highly recommend people who like alternative rock to give it a listen.
