Quarantined Players

After about a year and a half of quarantine, many students have been deprived of their beloved sports. As athletes make their way back to the courts and fields, the stress of COVID-19 continues to linger and certain protocols are in place to prevent the spread.

During the start of the school year, Sierra Vista’s varsity football team was placed back in quarantine when the school discovered that a portion of their players tested positive for COVID-19.

Additionally, the boys’ soccer team from both varsity and junior varsity, were shortly placed under quarantine.

Ryan Quinn, Sierra Vista’s boys soccer coach, manages the program. He was frustrated to know that his team was to be put on hold as the season was just starting.

“On September 8, 2021 the coaches found out that both varsity and junior varsity were detected with cases of COVID-19 from sharing a bus,” explained junior varsity soccer athlete, Jacob Perez, grade 9. This inconvenience would affect upcoming games that both teams were determined to dominate.

“The coach made everyone on the team do at home practices so we’d be ready to get back on our feets for our return,” continued Perez. The soccer team made it their priority to not let this fall back ruin them.

“Only players that were vaccinated were allowed to return back to school soon after,” mentioned girls’ soccer athlete, Isabella Campbell, grade 11.

“Quarantine was tough for both teams but they did not let this pause destroy their spirits,” commented Quinn.

Let this be an important reminder for all staff and students to sanitize and thoroughly follow COVID-19 protocols.

As of recently, both of the boys’ soccer teams have returned to full strength and they are getting back to the swing of things. They are working harder than ever to bring in wins for Sierra Vista.
