Women’s Volleyball Streak Continues

Dream Team

The Lady Mountain Lions volleyball team is making a great name for our school with their 11-win streak. Sierra Vista High School’s varsity women’s volleyball team has taken home a victory since the start of the 2021 season starting against Green Valley High School.

According to Coach Camille McComas, each player of the team is the MVP, “It takes the entire team’s energy to make a season special.” Each girl brings something to the table and contributes to the success of this year’s team. She thinks that their bonding and experience have also played a role in how well they are playing.

Peyton Castillo, grade 12, captain of the team, tells her thoughts on all these victories. “It makes me extremely happy, I am super confident in my team and I have so much trust in my teammates.” said Castillo.

Her inspiration is herself.

“I play this game for myself because I love it and if I’m not playing for myself and to make myself better then there’s no point.” stated Castillo.

Castillo explained it is the reason she’s ambitious about leading her team to win every game.

“My determination comes from watching my teammates succeed with my help, watching the smiling faces and cheers when we beat good teams,” mentioned Castillo.

Castillo has played for SVHS Varsity Women’s Volleyball since a freshman and started playing the sport at nine years old.

Lauren Randall, grade 12, co-captain, gives us her take on this year’s team. “I like being a part of this team because it’s positive. We all have off days but everyone continues to work hard and play the best they can.”

Randall knows that this year is better than she could’ve ever imagined it to be.

“I can say that I am proud and thankful for everyone coming in everyday willing and wanting to work so hard to make not only themselves better, but the team better as well.” explained Randall.

“I feel we have a lot of potential with this group of girls and it definitely helps that we all get along so well on and off the court,” says Randall.

“I truly love the sport. I love the team aspect. I love the hard work you have to put in. I love the joy and excitement I feel when I’m on that court supporting my teammates,” added Randall.

“Realistically our team will probably take a loss at some point. We welcome that because it gives us something to work on. It keeps us humble and hungry. However, for the foreseeable future, there is no reason for this streak to end anytime soon.” stated Randall.

“It’s not over yet, but we got this,” added Castillo.
