On July 11, 2025, Superman flew into theatres faster than a speeding bullet, giving moviegoers an action packed truly heroic experience. With a 225 million dollar budget and an arctic filming location, Director James Gunn made this movie remarkable. Critics and casual moviegoers alike saw this movie as an amazing experience, giving it a rotten tomatoes score of 83% and an audience score of 90%. The film grossed over 600 million dollars worldwide and received a nomination for best summer blockbuster.
Watching Superman in theatres created a connected feeling within those who were in attendance. David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman invites viewers to look back at their experiences and reflect upon what it really means to be human, somberly sharing during the movie’s main monologue, “I screw up all the time, but that is being human. And that’s my greatest strength.” This line was impactful, hitting many moviegoers right in the feelings, forcing viewers to look back on the human experience and think about their treatment of others.
Superman showcased a large roster of heroes, including: David Corenswet as Superman, Edi Gathegi, as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern. Despite being packed full of superheroes, the film manages to give each character their time in the limelight without making the story feel cramped. The same point stands with the many threats and antagonists throughout the movie, such as The Kaiju monster, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Ultraman. A wide variety of villains to antagonize the heroes kept the story entertaining throughout.
Superman takes the recent trend of dark and menacing Supermans and takes the opposite route, giving its older audience a more nostalgic and hopeful Superman, whilst giving younger viewers an example of what Superman always was meant to be, a bright shining pillar of hope for all to depend on. During the end credits, Gunn treated viewers with a cameo from Milly Alcock as Supergirl to build excitement for his new movie. Overall, Superman brings a feeling of happiness and hope that resonates with many viewers, earning itself a radiant 8.7/10
