Not every student takes on the daunting challenge of performing on a stage. However, on April 10, 2025, Sierra Vista High School’s most daring students proudly showcased their various skills during the school’s annual Talent Show. With a wide range of diverse performances, such as singing, dancing, rapping, and lip-syncing, the Talent Show revealed the excellence of Sierra Vista students both academically and artistically.
The Talent Show showcased spectacular acts filled with creativity and talent, bringing together a diverse range of performances that captivated the audience. The charismatic duo, Typer Sipes (12) and Makayla Pacheco (12), hosted the Talent Show, keeping the energy high and the audience engaged with their witty banter and infectious enthusiasm. Sipes shared, “I enjoyed hosting the talent show because it gave me a chance to meet new people with amazing talents. It also allowed me to showcase my somewhat mediocre hosting skills.”
Students took the stage to share their exceptional skills, starting with Alvie Valle (11) who opened the evening with a beautiful piano solo of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata.” Following Valle, Savannah Boissiere delivered a mesmerizing solo rendition of “Get You” by Daniel Caesar featuring Kali Uchis. Next, Aeris Largo (12) put the audience under a spell with her enchanting performance of “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid. Then, Oblivious Matter rocked the stage with their rendition of “Where is My Mind,” by the Pixies, followed by Sydney Stewart (11) wowing the audience with her performance of Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather.” Following this, Keyawn Mitchell (12) surprised the crowd with an original rap titled “Put It on the Gram,” followed by the trio, Chinellas– comprised of Jayzlie Adriano (12), Genevah Thomas (12), and Javen Tinagan (12) – who captivated the audience with their performance of “But Not Kiss” by Faye Webster. Londyn Hawkins (12) then impressed the audience with his original rap, “Can He Do It.” Following that, Kyler Bonifacio (11) filled the theatre with rhythm with his Rumba guitar piece, “Paso Doble.” Noelle Mayo (10) followed with a stunning solo dance to “Lovely” by Billie Eilish, filled with tricks, flips, and emotion. Next, Evangeline Hovind (11) enchanted everyone with their rendition of “Goddess” by Laufey. The Talent Show concluded with a delightful duet by Jaedon Burg and Lee Pobre, who performed “Billionaire” by Bruno Mars. Each performance left the audience smiling in awe due to the talent showcased throughout the evening. The Talent Show celebrated the talent, bravery, and school spirit, showcasing the excellence of students and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
While performers focused on their acts, a group of theatre tech students collaborated to manage the backstage behind-the-scenes work. Students volunteered as backstage helpers, front of house workers, sound technicians, and light technicians to collectively create the show’s magic.
The Talent Show judges, composed of Sierra Vista High School’s Mr. Jonathan Baltera, Mr. Shane Gibson, and Ms. Melissa Bushee, carefully analyzed each act based off of preparedness, stage presence, technicality, and overall performance.
Although many wonderful performances filled the Talent Show, one contestant stood out among the rest, dazzling both the audience and judges, earning the title of First Place. Evangeline Hovind (11) stole the spotlight during their performance of Laufey’s “Goddess,” captivating the audience with their raw emotion and angelic voice, winning First Place. Hovind shares, “I picked Goddess because it’s one of my favorite emotional pieces from Laufey and I picked singing because it’s such a powerful language to me.” Following Hovind, Noelle Mayo (10) earned runner up after her moving dance routine and Londyn Hawkins (12) won third place for his original rap piece.
Aeris Largo (12), who performed “Part Of Your World,” exclaimed “I loved getting to meet new people and their talents. It was nice connecting with other people in my last year of high school.” Meanwhile, Jaedon Burg, who performed in the last (but not least) act of the night stated “The talent show was my first opportunity to perform music and that’s something I want to do in the future. While I was absolutely terrified, I thought it was an amazing experience to perform on stage with my best friend and it was a very good experience for me to break the ice.”
The memories students made during the Talent Show linger long after the final curtain call. The Talent Show offers students the opportunity to courageously perform their skills in front of an audience and make irreplaceable memories. Whether the act featured a brilliant vocal performance, jaw-dropping dance routine, or dazzling lip sync performance, each act reflects the unique identity and unmatched passion of each Vista student.
