The stereotypical high school experience involves very few moments as iconic and anticipated as Prom. Many students view Prom not just as a typical school dance but a night filled with glamour, excitement, and an opportunity to make memories that could last a lifetime.
On May 3, 2025, Sierra Vista High School held their EDC themed Prom at The Meet, located in the Arts District. Walking into the decorated venue, the immersive purple and blue hues of light covering the dance floor immediately mesmerized the students. Additionally, the venue set up a buffet bar and beverage stand right next to the dance floor, giving students easy access to food and drinks.
Sierra Vista’s very own Student Body Ambassador and President of SV Beats, Kaya Holland (11), played the biggest hits of the year, keeping the dance floor alive and electric. Holland asserts, “Overall, the experience was fun, and I was glad I got to enjoy it with my friends. But on the back end of things, myself and my team realized ways we could continue to grow as leaders.” Whether students attended with a date, in a group, or on their own, everybody could look forward to a spot on the dance floor; and once the party got started, students were dancing, laughing, and living in the moment.
Nora Baltera (10), Co-Chair of Dance, depicts “Organizing Prom is a whole process. There’s a lot of talking to adults and being open-minded. A big part of organizing Prom is being in contact with the venue and spending a lot of time making sure that everyone is on the same page. Prom is a lot of fun to plan and to attend. I love seeing everyone dressed up and dancing in the mosh pit.”
Mr. Kenneth Brown, a Student Council Advisor, served as one of the many teacher chaperones at prom. “From the stylish and well-decorated venue to the wonderful theme and accompanying party favors, I’d say Prom 2025 was an absolute blast! Speaking from the faculty perspective, we love seeing our students go all out and dress to the nines for a single, momentous evening. Also, I’m sure students enjoy seeing Vista’s staff in a stylish new light as well! I mean, certain people find inspiring ways to stay fly all school year long, but since none of us can afford the $75,000 tickets to the Met Gala, prom gives us a chance to show off our collective sense of high fashion as well. For example, if you didn’t know about my guy Coach Terry’s legendary drip before this year’s prom, you certainly do now! Sometimes you’ve got to pop out and show them!” exclaimed Brown. “It’s also wonderful to get to see students and faculty enjoying great music and show each other what’s what on the dance floor. For instance, if you ain’t doing the wobble like my buddy Ms. Hughes, then you’re probably doing it wrong! Ms. Davis and Mrs. Perkins also showed out on their corner of the dance floor too! All in all, this was certainly a prom for the ages!”
For seniors, Prom carries even more meaning. Prom serves as one of the final memories made before graduation and the start of new journeys. The mix of joy and nostalgia all contribute to students making the most of Prom and living in the moment.
As the clock neared closer to ten o’clock, the grand reveal of Prom King and Queen added an extra spark to an already electrifying night. After a suspenseful countdown, Mr. Brown announced Nehemiah Brown (12) as Prom King and Jacqueline Grote (12) as Prom Queen, finalizing Sierra Vista’s 2025 prom court. After winning Prom King, Nehemiah Brown exclaimed, “When the time came to announce for Prom King, I was so nervous because the person I was going against was such an amazing person. When Mr. Brown said ‘Mr. Brown’ for his announcement, my face lit up with excitement and I was so glad that I won. I was so happy afterwards because after the announcement people were congratulating me every time I walked. It was amazing.” Jacqueline Grote, Prom Queen, adds, “Prom 2025 was my favorite high school dance experience, it was truly one of the most memorable moments of my senior year. I’m incredibly grateful to have been crowned Prom Queen and to represent JROTC, Synergy, and all the tech clubs I’ve been a part of, like Girls Who Code and SkillsUSA. The entire event was unforgettable and really made my senior year feel complete!”

Ultimately, Prom celebrated not just the end of the school year, but the friends, lessons, and memories made over the last four years of high school.
