On Saturday, February 15, 2025, Sierra Vista High School’s wrestling team once again successfully defended its 4A State Championship title at the Nevada Wrestling State Tournament, going 8-2 in the state semi-finals.
Mekhi Clark (10) won a state championship at 106 pounds, and Aiden Hernandez (11) claimed a state title at 126 pounds. Other star wrestlers include Kapono Starwood (10), AJ Caci (12), Sebastian Quintana (11), Swift Arellanes (12), Kyan Galan (12), Renz Soniga (12), and Gordon Austin (12). Mekhi Clark reflects, “I have been wrestling since freshman year and I feel proud of my win. All of my early mornings and late nights were worth it but I’m not gonna be content for too long. Next year we working even harder for that two time.”

Coach Terry recognized seniors Kailike Madolora, Renz Soniga, Gordon Austin, and MJ Cruz for their dedication over the past four years. “They were here when the practice room was a disaster—holes in the wall, mold everywhere. We have built something really special together, and I could not have done it without them,” he said.
Coach Terry credits the team’s success to their work ethic. “We work hard, very hard, every single day,” he said. “The kids have bought into what we are doing here. They work year-round to accomplish their goals.”
Sierra Vista’s wrestling team has once again proven its dominance, securing another state championship through hard work and dedication. As they look ahead to next season of the 2025-2026 school year, the team remains committed to pushing even further, keeping the tradition of “One Family” alive.
