In September 2024, music mogul Sean Combs, better known as “P. Diddy,” recipient of multiple Grammys and BET Awards with an estimated net worth $300 million, made headlines – but this time for a shocking arrest under grand jury indictment charges of kidnapping, drugging, and coercing people into sexual activities.
In days leading up to his arrest, Sean Combs faced multiple accusations of crimes, such as abuse, rape, sex trafficking, gang rape, drugging, grooming, assault, and verbal abuse. The earliest lawsuit traces back to November 16, 2023, when Cassandra Ventura, singer and model better known as “Cassie,” accused Diddy of violence and rape. Ultimately, the court settled the case, acquitting Combs until four more lawsuits surfaced towards the end of November to early December of 2023. In response to this, Sean Combs broke his silence on his Instagram, posting, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,” followed by, “For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy…Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth.” Despite his attempt to subdue the allegations, Combs entered 2024 with two more lawsuits and leaked footage of his abuse. In February 2024, producer Rodney Jones, who worked on Diddy’s The Love album, filed a lawsuit, accusing Combs of unwanted sexual contact and forcing him to hire prostitutes. A few months later, CCTV footage emerged showing Combs violently attacking Cassie Ventura.
Despite the numerous allegations, Combs still managed to remain not guilty. Combs’ lawyer, Jonathan Davis, retaliated, “No matter how many lawsuits are filed it won’t change the fact that Mr Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone.” On September 10, 2024, Combs failed to attend a virtual hearing regarding the lawsuit filed against him by Derrick Lee Cardelllo Smith, resulting in a fine of $100 million towards Combs. The next day, a singer from Combs’ girl group project filed a lawsuit against him for sexual assault and overworking her.
Finally, on September 16, 2024, authorities arrested Sean Combs under the charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution, definitively exposing Diddy for his crimes.
