During December 2nd-6th, 2024 Sierra Vista High School celebrated the Holiday season with their annual holiday Spirit Week filled with dress up days, pep rallies, and a “wonderful” holiday assembly.
The week started out with a classic Monday Pajama Day, opening up the opportunity for students to “Sleigh the Day Away” with their festive pajamas. Tuesday gave the flannel obsessors a chance to show off their “Flannel Fun in the Frost” as they cozied up. On Wednesday, students and staff could not tell themselves apart by their “Holly Jolly Look Alikes”. Thursday allowed both students and staff to step into “Santa’s Present Box” and dress out in their best ugly sweater. Once Friday rolled around, students flaunted their “Holiday Hues” as they wore their class colors
As the holiday week progressed, Sierra Vista High School students shared their feelings of Spirit Week. Trinity Trost (11) describes the cheerful holiday spirit week as, “inclusive to the student body and brings a lot of students together.” As well as making her feel, “festive and excited for the holiday assembly.” Reaghan Morris (11), shares her opinion, as she expressed how fun Spirit Week was and how it “brought everyone together while also making me feel more festive and excited for the holiday assembly. “
Sierra Vista High School’s Student Council focuses on ways to implement a more active spirit in the student body. In order to achieve more spirit, Student Body Vice President, Hannah Reed (11), shares the true message of the assembly, “Every assembly is different, this assembly is more to spread joy and the holiday spirit as well as having more fun games and highlighting some high achieving students.” Additionally, Head of Blue Crew of Spirit Committee, Malia Bartlett (11), explains the true role spirit days and pep rallies play in the student body’s spirit, “people look forward to it (spirit week), and it brings school culture in because we don’t just do spirit week, we advertise on Instagram and the announcements because it’s very broad ” and as the days leading up to the assembly, “it creates hype and more interest as students begin to pay attention to the dress up days.”
The winter assembly consisted of multiple fun activities that drew in student participation. One of these activities, Winter Wishes, opened the opportunity for teachers to give recognition to their hard working students. Teachers took the chance to showcase their student’s accomplishments by entering them into Winter Wishes where they would receive a gift ranging from gift cards to Prom tickets.
Shortly after the assembly, AJ Fulford (12) and Brock Ford (10) share their experience regarding the assembly to end the holiday spirit week. Fulford explained herself as an unenthusiastic holiday music listener but, “hearing it at the assembly put me in the jolly holiday mood.” Ford emphasized that he’d also, “despised the previous assemblies”, changed his attitude soon after due to their “fun attitudes and activities.”
Sierra Vista High School students and staff enjoyed the holiday Spirit Week and look forward to more in the Spring as they continue to celebrate and show off their mountain lion pride for their school and events.
