In a world that constantly scrolls forward, there remains a small group of high school students that prefer to hit the rewind button. Devoting every Thursday to remembering the past, Sierra Vista High School’s Old Souls Club offers students a place to revisit the “good ol’ days,” bonding over vintage culture, bygone fashion, and pop culture over the decades. Established in November, 2024, Old Souls Club empowers members to turn back the clock and embrace their inner hippie with other vintage enthusiasts.
Despite being newly introduced to vintage culture, Mr. Ethan Everett, a math teacher at Sierra Vista High School, invests his time advising the Old Souls Club. Everett shares, “I enjoy the enthusiasm of Old Souls Club’s members. They accept everyone as they are and just want to have fun. Anyone should join Old Souls if they feel attached to anything “vintage” or feel like they’d enjoy living in a different era of America.”
Keeping it classic, club president, Jeni Healey (11), does not just admire the past but strives to build a community that welcomes fellow old-fashioned students. Healey exclaims, “What I enjoy most about Old Souls is the community. Everyone gets along with everyone, and we all see the same value in old traditions. Some events to look forward to are our swap meets and vintage markets. We also plan on having donation runs where students can provide used items for charity.”
Sierra Vista’s Old Souls Club proves that one does not have to live through history to appreciate it, reminding students of the value in all things vintage. In a world that can feel like time is moving too fast, Old Souls Club reminds students to slow down and cherish the treasures in the past.
