Sierra Vista High School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month during the week of September 30th through October 4th, with a vibrant and exciting Spirit Week, organized by the Hispanic Latino Student Union (HLSU). Hispanic Heritage Month is a national celebration that honors the cultural heritage of Hispanic and Latino communities across the United States. Starting September 15th and running through October 15th each year, HSLU ensured Hispanic Heritage Month was remembered as students expressed their pride and heritage through themed spirit days.
Each day of the week, starting September 30th through October 4th, students had the chance to dress up according to a special theme that celebrates different aspects of Hispanic and Latino culture. Starting the week off with Lunes Tropical (Tropical Monday) as students were seen wearing bright and tropical colors to represent the different landscapes and warm climates associated with Latin American countries. Martes Música (Music Tuesday) students could dress up as their favorite Latino artists or wear them on their shirts celebrating the influence of Hispanic and Latino musicians on global music. Miércoles de Deporte (Sports Wednesday) students wore their favorite sports jerseys, as many seemed to wear national soccer teams from various Latin American countries. Sí Se Puede Jueves (Yes We Can Thursday) students showed off their favorite college merch, celebrating the importance of education in the Hispanic community. Bandera Viernes (Flag Friday), a perfect way to end this spirit week with students dressed in the colors of their country’s flags, representing countries such as Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and more.
Visa Station News news created by the video production class featured a daily quote from influential Latino figures every day during Hispanic Heritage Month.
