As summer comes to an end, Sierra Vista High School’s lions return to the den. On August 30, 2024, the school helped students get back in the learning groove with a welcome-back assembly themed Leo’s Roller Rink. With the dazzling display of retro hues painting the gymnasium and the band filling the room with energetic school spirit, students flooded the stands to the brim, ready to get the disco-ball rolling.
As the vibrant colors of the JROTC’s flags unfurled, the school’s cadets stood proudly at attention while the harmonious voices of the school choir filled the auditorium with a powerful and harmonious rendition of the national anthem to kick off the assembly. Afterwards, the band took center stage to perform the first two Segments of their new and upcoming marching show titled “The Levels Experience.” Next, the color guard danced and grooved to their new 2024 Fall Marching Show instrumental, giving the students a breathtaking performance that brought the music to life. Feeling the rhythm of the night, acappella serenaded the crowd with a pitch-perfect performance of their version on Aha’s “Take On Me,” amazing the students with their raw talent. Not long after, cheer electrified the room with their stunts and flips, keeping disco spirit alive with their high-flying moves. Then, Vista’s fall athletes stole the show in a competitive game of Hungry, Hungry Lions before welcoming SV Beats performers, Londyn Hawkins (12) and Charlotte Reynaldo (12), to perform their song “Chemistry.” Additionally, four random students from each grade were called onto the floor to participate in a competitive game of musical chairs. Just as the final round began, Taiten Olive (12) seized the opportunity to not only snatch the chair away from his opponent, but also lift it above his head and sprint away with it. Screams of laughter filled the gym as the football team jumped out their seats to stampede after him, creating a hilarious scene. Last but definitely not least, Synergy performed
Every year, Sierra Vista’s Student Council dedicates a remarkable amount of time and effort to plan each assembly to truly make it come to life. This year’s Head of Assembly and Student Body First Vice President, Hannah Reed (11), excitedly shares “When it comes to the behind the scenes, I start planning assemblies anywhere from 1-2 months in advance. By far, my favorite part of the process is assembly set up day! The assembly committee starts setting up at 6am, hanging backdrops, decorating the foyer, finishing balloon arches, running through the content, etc! We really are a family in Student Council, and, even on what is one of the most stressful days for me as Head of Assembly, my Stuco family is always there to support me and help me bring my vision to life. After spending so much time planning, seeing everything come together on assembly day and bonding with my Stuco family over something as simple as balloons is definitely my favorite part of the process! I love assemblies so much because they get the student body excited before an event or significant time and they provide an outlet for student performers. My plan for assemblies this year is to keep them fun and engaging and ensure that they always incorporate diversity. For me, the most important parts of assemblies are the featured performances and activities that spotlight students, teachers, and staff.”
