As the school year comes to a close, Sierra Vista says goodbye to the 2024 graduating class. Throughout the years Sierra Vista seniors have made many fond memories with classmates and teachers and have big plans for their futures.
Margarette Antioquia (12), a graduating senior, says “After high school, I plan on having a memorable and enjoyable summer, as well as working double time in order to save money for college expenses.” Antioquia plans to attend UNLV Honors College for Biology in the upcoming 2024 fall semester. “After summer, I will begin my journey at UNLV as I work towards becoming a future dermatologist.”
Catherine Huang (12) reflects on her high school experience saying, “My favorite memories were primarily created in Key Club.”. Huang served as Sierra Vista Key Club’s Treasurer for the 2023/24 school year. Key Club is an international service organization that primarily focuses on getting students active in their local community through volunteer service. Huang elaborates on her time in Key Club saying, “Key Club gave me the opportunity to be part of a greater community through community service. I also enjoyed spending time with friends while volunteering, and traveling to compete at Fall Rally South at Six Flags in California with other Key Club divisions in our district.” Huang plans to further her education at UNLV after high school as a computer science major in pursuit of a tech career.
Bea Rodill (12), secretary of Filipino Club, reflects on her time in “Most of all, I’m really going to miss Filipino Club. This year we really built the club from the ground up, and became one of the biggest clubs at Sierra Vista. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to cultivate an environment where other Filipino students could learn more about their heritage, and be surrounded by a large community of other Filipino peers. I am so excited for our new board, and the new memories they will make next year.” Rodill plans to take a gap year before furthering her studies as an environmental science major.
Jean Howard Sicat (12) reflects on the several events held at Vista. “Throughout the years, I was a really active member of our student body and attended several events held around campus. My favorite memory was Springfest in junior year. It was really fun to help set up decorations and to go around to play the carnival games that all our clubs made to raise money.”
Now that the year comes to a close, graduating seniors put on their cap and gown and Sierra Vista says goodbye to their cubs that have grown into lions as they leave the den for the last time.
