With summer approaching, it is not uncommon for students to dread the boredom which may be headed their way. Without set plans, summer break potentially could seem like a three month nap. The simple solution to this problem is planning ahead and being aware of the events in the local community.
Sierra Vista sophomore Mia Nava adds, “ Every summer I never know what to do while school’s out. It’s nice having a break but I wish I knew what things were happening sooner”. On June 7, just one weekend after school ends, is the First Friday Festival of Downtown Vegas where students could spend their new found freetime. This art festival celebrates local creativity and the vibrant culture living among locals that often is overlooked by the shiny strip that consumes the image of what is Vegas. This same night celebrates art in other ways, including a Bruno Mars concert at the MGM casino in the Dolby Live arena. Get ready to drop everything, including Versace, on the floor as Bruno dazzles fans at not only this concert but also on the 8th, 12th, 14th and 15th of June. Another concert that is perfect for a “hot girl summer” is Megan Thee Stallion, June 22nd at the T-mobile arena. Not only will music lovers catch Tina Snow herself, but also Megan’s opener Glorilla. Just a few short weeks later is another great lineup of concerts. The first weekend of August 3, will hold Chris Brown and Muni Long’s joint concert at the T-mobile arena that is guaranteed to make fans sing all night long. The following weekend, August 10th, will have a calmer, more spiritual vibe from singer Jhene Aiko, also at the T-mobile arena, which could be students’ last chances for a fun night out before school begins the following Monday.
To take a break from the lively scene, the scent of freshly popped, buttery goodness and slightly overpriced tickets may offer a pleasant switch of scenery. This summer is filled with new movie releases, some will take students back to their childhoods. On June 14th, the much needed sequel “Inside Out 2” releases, where the main character Riley is now of a similar age to the original audience, pulling at every audience members’ heartstrings. Similarly, Despicable Me 4 releases July 3rd, submerging viewers back into the fun filled world of “Minionese” , language of the Minions, and oh so fluffy unicorns. If cartoons grow tiresome, a compelling switch could be coming back to the theaters June 28th to view the latest addition to the “Quiet Place” trilogy. To finish off summer 24’s movie theater adventures, “Deadpool & Wolverine” will have once bored teens laughing for the entirety of the film.
Summer is only as exciting as students make it, without proper preparation, of course these three months may seem like a bore. However, with the countless upcoming local events, festivals, and concerts, these next few months should never be a snooze again.
