On Mar. 30, 2023 a Grand Jury indicted former President Donald J. Trump with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. Charges stem from payment to Stormi Daniels by Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, to cover up Trump’s affair.
In June 2023 a second indictment rose from the mistreatment of important government documents. A total of 40 counts in total including both unlawful retention of national defense information and conspiracy to obstruct justice from the January 6 insurrection. Trump’s partner in this matter, Walt Nauta, appears in video footage removing classified documents from the White House then later moving them into Trump’s possession at his Florida home.
A third indictment stems from the disturbance of the transfer of presidential powers and interference with the Senate confirmation process in January. The four charges are as follows: Conspiracy to defraud the U.S., conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights. Trump and six other conspirators are accused of misinformation about the 2020 election calling it fraud which ultimately caused the riots at the capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
In August 2023 another Grand Jury indicted Trump for attempting to overturn his loss at the 2020 election in the state of Georgia. A recorded telephone conversation between Trump and the Georgia State Secretary, Brad Raffensperger to help overturn Georgia election results Courts expect to hear arguments from the indictments sometime in March and April of 2024.
