On May 6th, 2023 King Charles III ascended to the throne, becoming the new King of England. The Archbishop of Canterbury conducted the ceremony, which took place at Westminster Abbey. After the public Coronation, the new King and Queen returned to Buckingham palace to continue the ceremony with ‘The Coronation Procession’. Here, other members of the Royal family join them, where they all appear together at the balcony of Buckingham palace to conclude the day’s events. On the following day, May 7th, the Windsor Castle held the Coronation Concert, broadcasted live by BBC studios. Performances included artists Lionel Richie, Take That, Katy Perry and Andrea Bocelli.
The coronation events concluded on May 8th after The Big Help Out. This is a day dedicated to “use volunteering to bring communities together and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation weekend” according to Royal.UK, the official website of the Royal Family.
