On April 24, 2023, Fox News fired the news host Tucker Carlson. Tucker Carlson began his career in 2005 working at CNN, shortly before beginning his time at Fox News in 2009. Carlson quickly became popular within the news network, receiving his own prime-time show in 2015. Carlson became the highest-rated host in all of cable news, as well as an icon within the Republican party – so far as to become a potential vice-president pick of Donald Trump.
Following the 2022 Presidential Election, Tucker Carlson became the face of Republican election denial, accusing several states of rigging elections and claiming voting machines were being hacked and manipulated. While Fox News’ CEO Suzanne Scott did not explain why she fired Carlson, his departure was only a week after Fox News settled a $787 million dollar lawsuit with the election technology company Dominion. Fox News is also still in court fighting a $2.7 billion dollar lawsuit against the election technology company Smartmatic. Additionally, a former coworker Abby Grossberg accused Tucker Carlson of using vulgar language to describe women and exhibiting misogynistic behavior in the workplace. Grossberg noted that on her first day of working with Carlson, she noticed photos of Nancy Pelosi wearing a plunging swimming suit hanging on the walls of his office. Grossberg added that “[Fox News does not] care about telling the truth and they do not care about women. All they care about are ratings and revenue.” Fox News responded by calling Grossberg a liar, and Tucker Carlson has yet to respond to the allegations.
