“A Tale as Old as Time” themed homecoming dance, held on October 14, 2023, transported students into a world of magic, nostalgia, and youthful exhilaration in a way that no mountain lions could forget.
Student Council planned and prepped for months to create a fairytale-like atmosphere. Blossoms cascaded elegantly along the handrails of the staircases, lights strung throughout the dance floor, and curtains draped around the quad. The DJ booth, run by SV Beats members Quin Dottery, Tayven Stipp, Kaya Holland, and Nate Shaffery, set the mood for students to dance the night away. The 360 camera rented by cheerleading coach Lonna Hughes and operated by Enzo Noel, Madison Lochel, and Dallas Smith became a huge success at the dance, alongside the mystic-themed photo booth. A drink bar stood in the cafeteria, providing students with a selection of non-alcoholic drinks. Additionally, students could enjoy complimentary Raising Cane’s and Crumble Cookie treats.
The highlight of the evening crowned the Homecoming Court winners. The chosen students were announced at the end of the night, receiving their well-deserved recognition. Students chose Freshman Elias Ward and Lauren Grobl as Lord and Lady, Sophomores Gabriel Sabasino and Kenzie Gridge as Duke and Duchess, Juniors Niko Montano and Le’lah Bell as Prince and Princess, and Seniors Ray Solis and Melanie Radan as Homecoming King and Queen.
Melanie Radan shares her experience as homecoming queen, “I think homecoming was amazing, so many people had fun together which made everything fun. The dance decorations were amazing and I believe the theme was also very good. My favorite part of the dance was definitely when they announced me as queen. It honestly felt so surreal and made my homecoming experience even more amazing. I am really grateful to have won homecoming queen. I definitely had high hopes for winning however I know that the other girls also had a great chance as well.”
Sabrina Bayot, a sophomore, shares her opinion about homecoming being a success, “I thought that homecoming was really fun, and the decorations and effort were way better than last year.”
The 2023 homecoming dance truly lived up to its theme and set a positive tone for the new school year. As the years go by, the memories of these magical nights become cherished treasures, reminding everyone that some tales are worth revisiting.
