On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Sierra Vista High School’s women’s soccer season came to an end with an exciting game against Legacy High School with a final score of 4-1. As the fall sports season comes to an end, Sierra Vista’s women’s soccer team closes off one more triumphant season. With improvements among the team, reaching playoffs, and even ranking third in their league; the team expands their success to the current season.
Team captain, Jenoa Pasion (11) explains the increased motivation behind the 2023 season’s success, “This year we were determined to make a comeback from last season. We won the majority of our games this season compared to the last because we were able to actually play as a team. This meant we were there to have fun and get what we needed to get done with no negative energy.”
Additionally, head Coach Ryan Quinn describes the season as a “success.” Kinsley Beck (9), a winger on the team described the season as “great.” Pasion elaborates, “Overall, this season was amazing. It involved consistent determination and teamwork.” All of their determination and motivation paid off, making this year’s season more successful than past ones. Quinn explains, “This season went really well. We finished 3rd in the league, and had more wins this year than the past 2 seasons… We were 13-4-1 overall and finished 12-3-1 in league play finishing 3rd in the 4A Desert League.” Beck shares her opinions on the overall record stating, “Our wonderful record was definitely one of our biggest achievements this year along with the team’s comeback from past seasons. I’d say the biggest highlight of the season was getting to know each of the girls and creating so many friendships.”
One more significant factor in the season’s success revolved around the team’s chemistry. Beck describes her experience in such a positive environment explaining, “I would consider our team to pretty much be a family. We all grew very close with each other and made some really strong bonds throughout the season. We were always very positive and passionate about soccer and I can’t wait for next season with these girls.” Paison describes her experience sharing, “Our team’s atmosphere was very positive. We were a team filled with enthusiasm, different personalities, and mutual support. There was respect and trust among teammates on and off the field. Overall, our team fostered a positive environment which contributed to the team’s success.” Obtaining such a welcoming environment not only affected the current season but Pasion expects it to continue to impact later seasons explaining, “We expect to have an even better season next year now that we were able to build chemistry with each other and have a very encouraging coach.”
After the season’s success, the team continues forward hoping to improve their future seasons. By working together, committing themselves, and pushing each other harder than ever they work to ensure even more successful seasons in the future.
