On Monday, August 7th, 2023, the doors of Sierra Vista High School burst open with new and familiar faces flooding Sierra Vista’s hallways for the highly anticipated first day of school. As students looked around campus, their eyes met the stylings of storybook inspired hallways and stairs that carried throughout the school.
The theme for the 2023-2024 school year is “Into the Storybook”. Throughout the school, students step into familiar settings from storybooks such as forests, villages, and mountain sides. In the entrances to each hallway, astronomy inspired decorations that display our upcoming sport games.
The showstopper of the year is definitely the staircases. Both the main and back quads, stairs are decorated with their respective Hogwarts house crests that represent each class and symbolize their assigned ‘Vista Value’ for the 2023 to 2024 year.
Christian Robolledo, Student Body First Vice President, explains, “We wanted to tie the Harry Potter houses into Sierra Vista’s F.A.I.R. values. “With our school’s core values in mind, we wanted to be able to assign and connect our student body with them through houses. This year seniors represent Fortitude as Slytherin, juniors represent Integrity as Ravenclaw, freshmen represent Attitude as Gryffindor, and sophomores represent Respect as Hufflepuff.”
Melanie Radan, Senior Class President, adds, “The theme is going to continue throughout the school year beyond just in school decorations. Our school’s dances and even theater program is following the storybook theme this year. We can’t drop the themes to everyone just yet for the dances this year, butstay tuned with Sierra Vista’s Instagram account @leothelionsvhs and you’ll be the first to know!”
Throughout the summer, Student Council works diligently in order to prepare for Vista’s reopening. Student Council’s responsibility is to make school a better experience for the student body. “It’s important to make sure we decorate the school for the students. Student council aims to make sure that students are happy and spirited so they are encouraged to attend and participate in class.” Robolledo explains. “There is a lot of hard work that goes into preparing during the summer and the week before school to prepare for the new school year, but it is more than worth it when we see the boost in happiness for our students and staff.”
Thank you to Student Council for their hard work and efforts.
