Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust.

Light and music filled the air as this year’s prom, “Pixie Hollow”, held on May 14, 2022 at Springs Preserve took place.
The magical environment created by Student Council made students truly feel the pixie hollow magic on their special night. Dav’yne Oglesby, co-chair and future chair of dances for Sierra Vista’s Student Council, was in command for this event. “We’ve been planning this for months and because of the greenery venue, we knew the theme had to be Pixie Hollow,” stated Oglesby. The several uses of vines, fairy lights, bottles of glitter, green décor, and a breathtaking centerpiece overall created a better feel of the film, Tinkerbell. With these cheery decorations in place, there’s bound to be an issue. “Even though we glued the ‘pixie dust’ bottles shut, there were still some that spilled or fell and broke,” continued Oglesby, “There also were several people who stole our centerpieces.” Though some incidents had occurred, Prom was still a core memory for some.
With Prom, comes “Promposals” where one will ask another through a sign or a grand gesture whether it’s through lights, at an event, etcetera. Although Prom is for upperclassmen, underclassmen are able to attend if they are asked by a Junior or Senior. “Going as a sophomore was such an amazing opportunity that most people don’t get to get, and I’m lucky to say I will be able to go to three proms.” said Sienna Nepa, a Sophomore at SVHS. The feeling of getting asked to Prom and the amount of effort that goes into it is undeniably something that you will never forget. Moreover, Prom is important for the Seniors considering it is one of their last high school events. “The event held a lot of weight and knowing it was my last school dance prior was definitely a little emotional,” stated Cameran Burgard, a Senior at SVHS.
Even though there was a great turnout for Prom, not as many people attended as much as they did in the previous years. This could be a result of the new attendance policy set by administration that started stating that if a student had three or more unexcused absences ,as well as tardies, they would not be allowed to attend Prom. This led to a decline in ticket sales and was devastating for most people who could not attend.
Despite the dip in attendance, Student Council still managed to create a special and momentous event for all who attended. Some special touches included a chocolate fountain with an assortment of sweets to dip such as cookies, cake, brownies, and more followed by a delectable selection of fruit, and a photo booth courtesy of Springs Preserve.
Prom typically marks the end of the year and for some, it was one of their hardest years yet coming back from Covid. However, the overall vibe and feeling the magic in the air gave attendees an amazing night to end off this fanatical year.
