Summer Blockbuster Previews

Caiden Beasley, staff reporter

As summer quickly approaches, movie fans all over the world know that means it is summer blockbusters season, to prepare Sierra Vistas movie fans, I have compiled a summary of what Hollywood created to keep us cool and entertained during Vegas summers.

The first early summer film which has already hit theaters on May sixth is the sequel to Dr. Strange titled (Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness) which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the sorcerer supreme Dr. Strange and Elizabeth Olsen as fan favorite Scarlet Witch. The film is directed by long-time director Sam Raimi who started the Marvel movie phase back in 2002 with his original Spider-Man film. Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness according to the director is the first film to introduce a horror element into the MCU but also continues all of the usual MCU action comedy and fun. Anyone looking for fun late-night creeps or another bizarre Marvel multiverse adventure is going to love this film.

Horror and Marvel fans are not the only ones with movies coming out for them this summer, parents and 80´s fans alike are buckling their seatbelts because the long-awaited sequel to Top Gun (1986) is also flying in this summer on May 27th. Tom Cruise is reprising his role as the beloved fighter pilot Pete Maverick as the story follows him returning to the Air Force almost thirty years after to train a detachment of graduates. The film has suffered tedious delays of more than six months but is finally releasing this summer. On that same 80-90´s nostalgia note, the new Jurassic Park spin-off, Jurassic world: Dominion is releasing this June 10th. The film is the final installment in the Jurassic World trilogy that started in 2016 and stars Marvel’s own Star Lord, Chris Pratt, and Bryce Dallas Howard. But, this is not just another normal installment in the dinosaur-packed films but is also bringing back the original 1993 film stars Sam Neill and Laura Dern. Anyone craving Tom Cruises insane stunts or simply a t-rex filled adventure should look out this summer.

However, Hollywood has not forgotten about the kids as, this summer the next installment in Illuminations (Despicable Me) or sometimes known as (Minions) is releasing this July. The film titled Minions Rise of Gru is set to explore the backstory of the villainous leader of the minions Gru who starred in the first three Despicable me films which followed Gru as an adult. Also, DC League of Super-Pets is set to release on July 29th, a cute animated film about the life of the Justice Leagues animals. The characters are voiced by a very fun cast including Dwyane ¨the Rock¨ Johnson and even Keanu Reeves. Another family friendly release is the new Disney Pixar spin-off of the toy story titled Lightyear, the film follows the iconic character Buzz Lightyear as an actual person on an adventure to an unknown planet.

Lastly and certainly not least, a rather more unique film coming this summer is Elvis a biographical musical drama about the life of legendary pop singer Elvis Presley. The film like many others has suffered several delays but is finally arriving on June 24th. It stars Austin Butler as the King of Rock and Roll, as well as many other amazing actors like Tom Hanks.

Whether fans are looking for action adventure, comedy, horror, or anything in between: they can find something in the above descriptions, or look for my watch list Thor: Love and Thunder on (July 8th), Nope on (July 22nd), Where the Crawdads Sing (July 15th) and even more movies coming this summer.
