Back to School Tips

Coming back to school after a long summer can be difficult. After a long summer of staying up late and always being home, students struggle when returning to in-person school.
Tip #1 sleep is key
Having a good sleep schedule helps with focusing in class and releases stress. Fixing sleep schedules can be difficult though there are ways to help improve by getting better sleep.
Try not to use any electronics 30-60 minutes before going to bed; the light of a phone and other devices can block melatonin production.
Keep a clean, comfortable, quiet, and safe environment for sleeping. Feeling comfortable and safe helps with relaxation which makes it difficult to sleep without the body becoming relaxed and comfortable.
At the beginning of fixing sleep schedules, waking up and going to bed early every day, even on weekends, can help the brain get used to the feeling. Lastly, avoiding caffeine and other stimulants before bed helps to relax the body. Caffeine keeps the brain awake and moving, so even if it is not drunk right before bed, anytime within an hour can sttill effect sleep.
Tip #2 Procrastination
Procrastination can occur when school starts again. Studying can be an issue for many students, so finding a nice quiet place to study can improve with focusing. Multiple study spaces can help in case one spot gets boring or the first option is unavailable.
Getting into a routine improves keeping up with schoolwork. Finding a routine gives a way to get all schoolwork done as well as the flexibility to do activities out of school.
Be realistic with schoolwork. If there is homework that needs to get done, do it. It might not take as long as it looks. Either way, getting it done as soon as possible helps with stress and worry and gives more free time.
Tip #3 Support group
Getting used to people around the school improves stress and insecurity. Students, parents, teachers and staff can be a support group for anyone who needs it. Finding a trusted support system helps with worrying about asking for help which improves grades. Finding a trusted teacher to come to for school matters is very useful. Find friends that help with schoolwork. Having a friend to help and give perspectives will be very useful. Talk to a school counselor if there is something that needs to be discussed. The counselors control everybody’s schedules. If there are any issues, the counselor’s office is the place to go.

How very wise and true young lady. I didn’t get a lot of this done early on but I have implemented these items in my routine. Great job this year!!!
