A Social Media Platform for Vista

Nevaeh Dominguez, Opinion Co-Section Leader

Students at Sierra Vista High School keep track of upcoming events, deadlines, and bell schedules every day through Vista’s official Instagram page. Although students see the Daily Newscast during their third and fourth periods, they may forget important information, deadlines, and dates. For those forgetful few, Vista maintains an official school Instagram page that provides daily information about current events taking place throughout the school year.

The official page can be found at: @leothelionsvhs on the social media app, Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/leothelionsvhs/?hl=en). The platform consists of testing day schedules, toy drive information, game days for sports, and even club information. Along with additional features to this platform, such as highlight reels, new stories, and upcoming events, the page also allows students to connect with each other via social media. Meaning, a new form of communication between different students at Vista, and an up to date way to interact with different people. This account is strictly for the students of Vista and their parents. While bots following and commenting on the account is usually not an issue, when it is, the fake/ burner accounts are quickly removed and/or blocked.

Ashot Karmirshalian, manager of the account, discussed his point of view on the benefits of this platform and what his responsibilities bring to the students here at Vista.  “My duties of running the account consist of posting engaging posts and stories to inform and interest people about school spirit and events.” Karnirshalian further adds.

“I think the biggest purpose of the page is to make kids see school as a more enjoyable and fun environment to be in. We always try to make engaging posts to make people feel like they are included and that they matter to us and the school.” ends Karnirshalian.
