Bowling Team Strikes Again

Sierra Vista High School’s bowling team scored lots of strikes this season as they played around  12 games and won 7 games. Senior star bowler Gary La Sala, (team captain), qualified for the  individual state tournament along with Keana Ancheta and Sabrina Reyes. The Star Seniors are:  Sam Loeber, Robert Cannella, Andric Salvador, Marcus Lu and Gary La Sala. La Sala earned a spot to compete in the individual state tournament. On the first game (January  31, 2022), La Sala bowled a 659 series and the high game out of 70 bowlers, in all divisions,  with a 275 and advanced to the February 2, 2022 game head to head state tournament as the 3rd  seed. 

The bowling team enjoys some downtime after a victorious match.

Bowling coach Adam Claypool feels that being there to support the team is the most important  part of being a coach; he shares, “I enjoy coaching because bowling is fun and the kids are  awesome.” Claypool further explains how he supports the team, “I remind them what we are  here for, and make sure they enjoy the process.” The boys closed the season with (58-32) and the  girls finished off with (73-32). 

The Varsity Bowling Team competed in the state tournament during the first game Vista boys  bowled well and advanced to the quarter final round by a score of 9-0. As for the girls, in the first  round, they won 9-0 and lost in the semifinals 0-9. The Boys Varsity Team took on the strong  Bishop Gorman team on February 8, 2022 and lost with a score of 2-7. As for the individual state  tournament, Gary La Sala and Sabrina Reyes both placed 3rd.
